Well I had the obligatory cook out today. A few brats on the grill (that is bratwursts, not the annoying neighbor kids), and some music and sun on the porch. So I guess I officially started summer the 'American Way'.
It was really nice having today off, and tomorrow. These will probably be my last two days off in a row for quite a while now. with my promotion at work, I will be there a lot more. I have a lot of training to do in order to bring my support staff up to the level where I will be able to have a 'normal' schedule. that is if there is such a thing as a normal schedule in the hotel/restaurant business.
I guess I should back track a little. I recently took the job as executive chef at the Holiday inn and cinvention center here. I had been working there as banquet chef since November and things, as they often do, moved fast and i was in the right position at the right time for the promotion.
It is quite amazing in a way. I always feel things have a way of working out the way they are supposed to. Even when they don't seem that they are. about two years ago I had applied for the banquet chef position at this very property. At that time i thought i was in a position where that would work out. Well some stuff happened in my life that I had to take care of and would not have been in a position to do the job. two years (almost to the day) I se an ad and apply. This time I get the job and within months move up to Executive Chef. Where I now have much better pay (my pay is finally catching up to my lifestyle YEAHHH), I can move to other properties or companies in a position that is not starting over from the bottom and many other benefits.
So I guess what i am saying if things seem crappy right now, stick it out, everything happens for a reason and in the long run things have a way of working out for the best. that is if you work for them and stick it out, just don't give up.....
peace

Things have worked out well for you recently. I love that the position could provide mobility to eventually move to wherever you want.
KEV!!!!! Good to see you & I'm glad to hear that you are well!
